Social Value Advisor, Trafford Housing Trust
Tom has spoken at numerous conferences and networking groups regarding Trafford Housing Trust’s ‘Local Needs Based’ approach to social value, which involves analysing local needs and priorities and identifying existing provision of services, in order to subsequently understand what social value activity can deliver the greatest impact.
Tom’s previous experience includes 5 years in Business Development and Corporate Social Responsibility (including production of Social Value tender responses) for a FTSE 100 company and 3 years as Business Support Lead for Trafford Council’s Economic Growth Team. As a result, Tom’s primary area of interest and focus is the role that businesses can play in delivery of social value and the opportunity of the public sector to influence this behaviour through social value in procurement. Examples include: support to long-term unemployed people; payment of the Living Wage; supply chain spend with social enterprises and SMEs; and pro-bono support for VCSE groups.
In addition to his membership of GM Social Value Network, Tom is also a member of Manchester University’s Inclusive Growth Analysis Unit (IGAU) Advisory Panel, the National Housing Federation (NHF) North West Social Impact Group and Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Assembly.
